Terry, these papers are certainly quite old. Min age 32 and max age 41 years It will be interesting to hear how they are kept and the extent, if any, of age-fogging

I noticed that the last post by Jon was September 2019 and the link to his website doesn't work. Anyone know if he is okay?

Agfa, back in the 1970's used to make a surface of their Chlorobromide paper they used to call 'silk'. I think it must be very close to the 'Satin' made by Ilford. That gave an impression of not having a really dense black - but did it? I thought so at first but when I did some portraits that paper could not be beaten. It was almost 'dreamy' in effect.
The surface texture of the 'silk' if you looked closely was very much like tiny pyramids of emulsion that sparkled, very much like woven silk fabric, but that seemed detract from the real blacks. Possibly giving the impression of a softer grade Multigrade was not the norm in t'owld days.

This may be the same effect that you may be getting from the Ilford Satin. Whether or not because the Agfa paper was fibre based and the Ilford is RC, has any bearing on the effect I have no idea.

This may be a redundant piece of info as you and others may have already checked but I note his website cannot be reached either. He may just have "retired" from us and photography rather than anything more serious. Let's hope so

Hi Keith, try Photrio.
This was lifted from the photrio website and it was almost certainly his description and avatar.

Marty, just out of curiosity, how do you check where on Photrio this info exists if as is the case with me you can't recall any posts or threads of his on Photrio? I did try to search by the name Jon Butler alone but it produced nothing.

Thanks

Mike
