Default Minamata

A new film about W. Eugene Smith's work to expose the mercury poisoning of the people of Minamata has just opened in cinemas around the country.

I have the excellent book published by Fabrica about his photo reports from Country Doctor to Minamata. Highly recommended. Here some insights in his work: https://www.magnumphotos.com/photogr...-eugene-smith/
I recommend to see the excellent print of "the walk to Paradise garden" at the end of the "Family of Man" exhibition in Clrevaux, Luxembourg.

It might take a while before it gets to the 'small screen' Paul and sadly after Depp's recent court case, it may only make it to small cinemas as well.

Like you, I too like Depp as a actor, especially in collaborations with Tim Burton.

I had a copy of the book back in the 1980s - got lost in a move. The book had text and photographs from both Gene and his wife Aileen made during 1971 to 1973 when they lived there.

It is a crushing condemnation of corporate greed by the Chisso Corporation and their utter indifference for life and their thugs who beat Gene Smith up so badly that they damaged his eyesight.

I very much hope that the film is well made and truly reflects the events that took place.
