Default Weston Exposure Meter Repairs - UK

Hi guys

I met a fellow photographer over the weekend, who told me about the company he recently used to have his Weston 5 exposure meter repaired and said they were very good.

https://ian-partridge.com/westonrepair.html

I have no experience of using them - but for those who are in need, this person may be of use.

Good luck

Martin

I wonder where he obtains the photocells? That is the main reason they fail, or does he just refurbish working models only?

It's not cheap at £179. I love my Weston Master V but I don't know about attached it'd have to be augmented at that price!

It's almost the same price of a new Sekonic L398A Studio Deluxe III.

Wow! Yes at that price, one REALLY would have to love their meter.

Personally, looking at the prices on eBay UK, I'd chance buying a couple of the better rated ones and still have money left over for something else.

Isn't that funny.

I would get my Weston repaired at that price without a moments thought.

I have tried a Sekonic L398A and didn't like it that much.

As they say YMMV.

I find the dial on the Weston to be the best thing since sliced bread and helps me understand my exposure options far more readily than the digital read outs of the more modern meters.

I realise, the galvanometer in the Weston is an extremely sensitive piece of kit and prone to breakages but to me the combination of the moving needle and the dial are to me a far superior solution than the digital readouts of many modern meters.

Personally, I think many more photographers would have a far better understanding of exposures if they had to use a Weston, at least for a while.

And another big plus for a Weston - it never runs out of batteries

I must agree with everything you say, Martin, I grew up using weston's, and you learn far more about exposure and how it works with a Weston than any digital readout's, I have a couple of Sekonic's, but I far prfer my euromasters and master 5, and worth every penny to keep an old friend alive

I love my ancient Gossen with dial and measuring probe for ground glass measurement of my macro scenes, and I would be lucky to change the broken dial.
But Gossen doesn't deliver anymore.

Thanks to this fabulous guys keeping alive our good old stuff.
