Default The Road To Palmyra - BBC 4 1:00am

A repeat of the programme with Don McCullin and Dan Cruikshank examining and photographing the remains of Palmyra in Syria. An historical site largely destroyed by Isis in the recent conflict

I have only just spotted this hence the short notice but if you haven't seen it first time around or even if you have you may want to record it again

I was impressed enough to want to see it again

Thanks for that.

I might have seen it already, but we get so little on the box about photography...

And my TV guide just gives the title, so I would have missed it without your prompt. So thanks again. It'll give me something to watch over breakfast.

Yes, Terry, unfortunately the title doesn't give much of a clue that it is a mixture of Don McCullin's photography and Dan Cruikshank's knowledge of historical sites

I missed it, but may be able to get it on iPlayer.

Definitely worth watching again.

I watched it again last night on my recorder and was shocked by how much in such a short time I had forgotten. I watch the older repeats of Midsomer Murders on ITV3 and can usually remember more of the whole plot than I feel I did of the original showing of "Road to Palmyra" and yet there was a lot more real substance in this programme.

B&W is clearly still Don's "serious medium for the keeper shots" and may be that way because via the darkroom he had complete control over it

So, yes, clearly worth a second look for me but it worries me just a little that more of its content the first time round was not retained by me

Me to wife: "Big Paul said there was no need to worry as I'd soon forget what I was worrying about it was and he was right"

Wife to me: "Good, so why do you still look worried?"

Me to wife: "I worry about forgetting what I once worried about".

Wife, now totally exasperated, to me: "You need a short nap dear and I can help there as she lands the frying pan on my dome"
