I wouldn't necessarily class myself as an expert but I have always preferred glossy surface in FB paper. When air dried it doesn't become too glossy making it difficult to view, which I find off putting when RC paper is used.
I find the look of most matt papers a little flat contrast wise in comparison.

Air dried glossy is my preference. Visually it has more depth and contrast in comparison to matt paper. However, I have many friends who prefer matt and it is really just a case of what you prefer.

Happy photography.

Tony, like Neil and David, I too prefer air-dried FB glossy papers. I've used matt papers from several manufacturers but much prefer the look of FB glossy, because of richer, deeper blacks. Which for me also enhance toning that I may undertake. But at the end of the day it really is a matter of taste, there is of course no right or wrong choice, whatever portrays your vision is what matters.

I prefer glossy air dried paper, I used to love and use a lot of the old Kentmere Warmtone fineprint fine grain surface before Harman took over Kentmere, alas, like many a favorite paper, no more.

I try to match to paper to type of image so do use all paper finishes, my favourite suffice is Semi-Matt and if I could only pick one paper it would be Ilford WT Semi-Matt. I do however bleach it back to increase the D-Max, beautiful paper.

This very much depends on the particular paper. I generally like FB matt (Ilford 5K) and dislike RC pearl.
