That looks interesting David. If its lighter than my Sinar (and I'm guessing it is) then at the price it might be worth a punt.
I see similar for sale on the auction site - though of the pinhole variety. This looks tastier altogether. Michael |

Looks like this is made from laser cut plywood. Our flexible circuit cut tool bases at work are made this way. If this camera uses the same plywood (which it appears to) it should be strong and stable.
I would probably take it apart and put a better finish on it though. Steve. |

Somehow it has a bit of a Fred Flinstone look about it, but at that price it'll be a good introduction to LF for many.

It reminds me rather of the self-assembly Bulldog, introduced a few years ago.

I paid 150 quid for my MPP 5x4..... with half a dozen darkslides, and a 150mm lens. Was definitely second hand though....

My opinion from looking at the pics is that it looks quite nice but just how strong some of those joints on the front standard are, I'm not sure. Also the swing locking knob looks like its not got much to screw into, i.e. could be prone to damage through inadvertent knocking of front standard. But at that price for something you know is complete is darn good IMO. How they hope to make a profit from it is another matter. Hopefully we'll get a report shortly after its arrived. |

Personally I think they're on to a winner at that price, especially with all the interest and sales of the Harman pinhole cameras. :-)

Incidentally, looks like Ilford/Harman/Walker are pilotting a 6x12 model of the titan pinhole.

I feel a bit of a party-pooper when I say anything 'bad' about film shooting, but I just don't get the whole pinhole thing. Why shoot fuzzy pics on big film????
God Bless Ilford and their pinholes, both 5x4 and 10x8, as they all shift film. I have, though, wondered if these cameras bring anyone new to film. Rather, are they just one more option for existing users?? Cameras like the old Bulldog and this new one might just tempt individuals who are presently all digital to try film. What I'd love, but can't presently justify, is a 10x8 camera. Maybe if this sells the boys responsible will upscale their design. If they happen to be reading, I believe I'm not alone . . . |
