Default Well ask a silly question I suppose

I joined this forum to ask.... (I was hoping being an electronics forum I may get some advice on making one)

electro tech online.com

My son and I have saved up his PIP (DLA) to get a darkroom for him, total cost on ebay £75 see photo

However he needs a timer that plugs into the mains with an outlet that goes to the enlarger allowing him to select seconds/minutes press start and the timer switches the enlarger on/off

He can't afford one from ebay, way too expensive.

ANY advice would be appreciated

Thank you

Jeremy R

The reply I received was

------------------------------------

Get him into a more modern hobby. Why live in the past?

Dark room went out 20 years ago a fact and you can't accept it!

Unfortunate that there are sites like that - obviously one to ignore.

The upside is that there seem to be lots of enlarger timers kicking around, the downside, as you've pointed out, is that they all cost something. With any luck you'll find something that will meet your needs eventually. In the meantime, you can still do it the old fashioned manual way - not as precise but still workable.

Good luck

If it's a genuine electronics forum you'd think that there were some experts within the forum eager to solve electronics issues. The fact it is a timer for a darkroom is neither here nor there.

I suspect that it isn't such a forum. It would seem to be largely a bone-headed trolls forum. One to avoid . Life is too short to be bothered with such people.

Well, the reply to your message made me swear out loud!!!

And I don't do that very often!!!

There are just some idiots in this world who can't see past the end of their noses. I would of been inclined to tell the poster to 'stuff it!' in not so nice words.

Stick on here and you'll generally get the help required.

I am totally amazed by the morons that exist, god help me if I had asked about doing electrical work on a "record player", or a viewer for stamp collecting

It is impossible to legislate against idiocy. All that happens is that someone comes along with a better idiot. And telling someone that a hobby that is satisfying and enjoyable is to be rejected JUST because it is older is definitely an example of a prize idiot.
(For definition, in classical Greek, an idiot was someone who was unlearned. The unfortunate ignorant person who told your son to find a more modern hobby is definitely ignorant, and therefore an idiot. You may safely ignore the opinion of an idiot.)
And if you think MY opinion is idiotic, you may safely ignore it. I'll let you.....
