Rollie Digibase C41 Developer
I mentioned some time ago that when I buy a kit of developer I have started to mix everything up in one batch and store the mixed developer in airtight glass bottles.
This now has proved itself because the date of mixing the developer was maked on the caps of the bottles as July 2017 - YES July! I have not done much C41 work for a while until today when I used almost a full 36 exp cassette of Fuji. The colour of the developer working solution is as it should be, a pale straw colour and nothing has precipitated out. I have just removed the film from the tank and hung it up to dry and from what I can see, the film looks perfectly normal. Contrast is right. Density is right. (Judged from the edge markings) so that seems to be the way to go for me anyway. |

I was about to post a question about the lifespan of mixed C41 kits, but you've just provided the answer. I mixed a complete 1L Tetenal kit in early December, it still seemed fine a couple of weeks ago, so I shall carry on using it.

I see that Macodirect has a 3x500ml ready to use kit: https://www.macodirect.de/en/chemist...e-kit-3x-500ml The 3 baths seem to come in plastic and the packaging says"for 14 x 36x35mm. Any ideas on this?

Probably the same as the developer sold by Firstcall down near Taunton. That is where I got my idea from. |

The Firstcall product comes in a softpak, which keeps a lot better than plastic bottles, you can squeeze all the air out, My R09 comes in softpak and it seems to not change color as plastic bottles of the same product does

Basic Mistake
Out of the 36 exposure film (28 exposed) I managed to get a grand total of 6 printable. I have made the fundamental mistake of winding the film back into the cassette a couple of weeks ago to use a different film, but after re-loading, forgot to wind it on past the last exposure - Doh!
What there is though, as I thought, are perfectly OK. Colour balance and density are normal. The developer keeps perfectly well over several months. |
