contact frame
I need to buy a frame for making contact sheets.
I've seen quite a few but don't know which is best, or easiest! Any suggestions?

Laura, I would look for one of the frames from Paterson, they do ones for 35mm, 120 or the one I like to use, the Universal.

Laura, I go along with Trevor, the ones from paterson are probably the best available and certainly very easy to use, or you can do what some do and use a sheet of clean plain glass to hold the negatives, it works, but the Paterson is better,Richard

I'm one of those who just use a sheet of plain glass on top of "print through" neg files. For me it's the best. I find the frames too fiddly especially if I have a larger quantity to contact print.

You can covert any Paterson contact printer to the universal type with a stanly blade, just cut all the internal lines off and remove. It's what I did to my 35mm frame to print 120.

I prefer to just use a sheet of glass. round off the edges of a window pane with some sand paper and tape around the edges. Best proof sheet contact printer I've ever had, and I've used 'em all.

contact frame
The paterson with the plastic lines allows you to contact a complete 36exposure film on one sheet of 10" X 8", which you can't do with just a plain sheet of glass.

For contact sheets anything Will do the Job, if you're thinking about to start to print with pop or alt processes then a split back one is the way to go.

How does it manage that?

Another vote for the Paterson's. I have the 35mmm & 120 versions. Easy to use, just slot the bottom edge of the neg strip into each row of the mask. Easy peasy.
