Hello from Carmarthenshire
I am a mature student at Coleg Sir Gar and have only just returned to film because i have a module that is from Pinhole through film to digital. If you had to write about 4 B&W film photographers who would you choose? I am so new to processing etc I am finding it all rather nerve racking!

Welcome aboard Julia!
As for four photographers, there are too many to list so I'd just suggest you pick those whose work you particularly admire. Everyone will know (for example) Ansel Adams, but if you are not a fan of that style of landscape or if you want a more contemporary photographer then it's probably better to pick someone else. I'm sure the processing will all go swimmingly - there is usually quite a lot of latitude in the process to get a usable negative. Real precision is only required in the developing stage when you want repeatability of results for tighter control - being a degree celsius or so out, or taking 30 seconds too long will make minimal difference. Have fun! Cheers, Bob. |

welcome to FADU Julia,
as to a selection of photographers have a look at this :http://www.masters-of-photography.com They are admittedly mostly classical and you may want to go elsewhere for more contemporary stuff. Maybe somebody here would have a reference you can use? Peter |

It's a difficult question. Do you want great photo technicians, photographers with important social content, camerpersons whose work are "cool" and popular? I would start with W. Eugene Smith and Henri Cariter-Bresson.

Hi Julia, and welcome to the forum. I would suggest you take a look at the work of the late, great Fay Godwin; a particular favourite of mine.
