Default Pyro Developer equipment stains.

A convert to digital has passed on a small box of redundant, assorted photo chemicals to me.
The ingredients for a Pyro developer are in the box.
I have heard that Pyro developer stains most things it comes into contact with.
Do those of you who use Pyro developers keep a set of measures and developing reels solely for Pyro developer use only?

Cheers.

Over the years I have used PMK along with a couple of Barry Thornton's staining devs and have recently started on Pyrocat HD. As far as equipment is concerned, and I have used the same plastic grads for donkeys years, I haven't had anything stained. That is also the same with dev tanks.

I have used PMK Pyro for the last 10 years now. No, it doesn't stain measures or trays.
In fact, it doesn't even stain all films. HP5 and Foma 100 take deep stain, Delta films next to none.
Not sure I'd test it on my carpet though.

Thanks for answering folks.

My darkroom has migrated to the small bedroom so I will let you know how the carpet goes.

Cheers.

Pyro is very sensitive to contamination from other chemicals so it is best to keep a separate set of dishes, tanks etc for pyro.

Depending on how much of a clean that a tank might need to rid it of other chemicals this comes as a disappointing shock to me. I always wash my tank out anyway with warm water and my reel as well but is this not enough? If not is there any other way such as soap?

Has anyone else here experienced the problem to which Tony refers?

Thanks

Mike

I have noticed that PMK does stain the film reels but very slowly over time. I have not noticed it has a detrimental affect to the negatives so don't worry about it.

Thanks Mitch. It's a balancing act really, I suppose. If you are a regular Pyro user and you can dedicate a tank for it then fine. However I wonder if (a) I'd always remember to use another thank and (b) if Pyro was only occasionally then an immediate good scrub after use then hopefully this eliminates any contamination

I did have a reel that was completely brown so it was easy to avoid using it with other developers. I tend every so often to replace my plastic reels when they start to become difficult to load.
