Default 35mm Slides

I have been quite shocked recently at the cost of my slides. I normally buy non process paid, send off to a professional processor, and mount the returned sleeved images myself. This usually results in 10-15 mounted per 36 film. Process paid with mounting thrown in would mean a considerable saving. However, the default processor seems to be Jessops for Fuji. Can anybody comment on the quality of their processing compared to a 'professional' firm? If the only difference is time, I would be prepared to wait a couple of weeks. Rejecting half of the mounted 36, would still mean that I have some reusable mounts. Even with the specialists I have still had blue casts and scratching occasionally. The scratching could be me, but I am fairly fastidious handling and loading film. I have loved using slides from 1975 when I first started photography, but I wonder how much longer I can justify them. With a medium scan and my reject rate it works out at £1 a pop now. Being very discriminating at the taking stage would mean a 36 film staying in the camera for a good length of time.

Jessops, at least over here, and with C41, is fine, I use them on price for the few C41 films I use, both colour and chromagenic b/w and never A problem, in fact I would give them 10 out of 10.

I can't comment on film processors, but you might always try to process at home if you have the inclination. You would need not much more of basic BW setup.

Aye, home E6 is a doddle, especially if you can lay your hands on a jobo processor. I know its doable without too.

If you don't want to give E6 a go at home and you are getting dissatisfied with your current situation, you might want to give Matt at Ag a call. He has taken over Metro Labs in B'ham and I think E6 was on the menu.

Of course it means the in-built postal delay but unless you need the slides ready the same or next day then it might be worth checking out.

Default Jobo

I have a spare Jobo CPE2 and a tin of bulk load 35mm slide film if you are interested. You can have it for what it cost me plus postage. Thought Id get a spare Jobo thinking it wouldnt last long, and well, it has. Just keeps going on and on.

Thanks very much for the offer Marc, but my usage is fairly small so I just buy the odd film when I need it. I have processed my own slides in the dim distant past, but it would not suit me now; but thanks again. I have just tried out AG. Returned in a good time and excellent slides and scan. They seem to be making all the good moves at the moment, and I think that I will use them in the future.

I came across Kodak Colour slides that I had taken many years ago. The back of the mount had the date 'APR 80' stamped on it. The picture was of a local shop being demolished. I posted the picture on my town's 'memory lane FB' site, only to receive several replies to say that the shop was still standing into the late 80's.On checking my B&W negatives I found photos of the shop still standing in 1987. I always assumed that the printed date on Kodak slides was when the film was processed and mounted. Was this a common fault with Kodak ?
