Default Does electronic flash contain infra red?

I have been considering making some IR images at night with flash. I recall seeing pictures made on IR film where the flash was filtered, so I assume the spectrum must contain the type of IR that can be recorded on film. I don't think it will be necessary to filter the flash if there is a filter on the camera. Has anyone tried this, or seen anything published about this technique? Thanks, Alex.
