This sums up the camera club outing for me :-
They look a good 25 years younger than the average club member. I was on a local heritage steam railway and what looked like a camera club outing were taking several shots per second of a locomotive that was standing still, with no smoke. I could hear the clatter of shutters above the noise of the actual railway.
I attended a talk from a 'judge' in the Western Counties Photographic Federation. His idea to improve your photography was to find which Photoshop filter made your photo look acceptable. Not tips to improve your picture taking. The bloke was a total idiot. I got fed up the the jokes like 'remember film and slides ha! ha! ha!'
I did attend the occasional talk/presentation from a professional. Some were excellent, but obviously digital predominates. Most were landscape and occasionally wildlife photographers. The really good ones used little or no Photoshop, as they had grown up with film. One talk from a railway photographer was really boring, he spent an hour showings us photos of the muddy cliff near Dawlish. And his other photos were heavily manipulated and repetitive.
Clubs aren't for me.
