Hello from Toronto, Canada
Hello All,
I am happy to have discovered this forum. Seems like a very friendly place, and I must say I am keen to take part here. Like many here I am reviving the B&W photography hobby that became a passion way back in my teenage years. Sadly I had to put it aside about 20 years ago for the usual reasons (raising kids, starting a business, renovating a house...). That was then, and this is now, and I am back shooting film again and loving it! I never really dabbled in digital save for a few small snapshot cameras. Seeing my brother's very expensive full-frame DSLR become obsolete after only 4 years certainly helped steer me from that path. Pulling all the film cameras out of the closet, giving them a good workout, and seeing the negs come out of the developer has been a wonderful thing. My only regret is not having restarted this hobby sooner. I have recently procured several medium format cameras to experiment with -- a very nice Mamiya TLR with 5 lenses, and a couple of vintage 1950's era folders which I intend to carry in my briefcase on my frequent business trips. So my camera quiver has become rather more substantial of late (two MF TLRs, two 35mm SLRs, and three 35mm RF cameras...oh boy! ). Some thinning may be in order soon. My darkroom gear is mostly gone, and I am learning the digital darkroom, which is a bit of a learning curve to say the least. Images are pulled in using DSLR scans for 35mm (my brother's Nikon does have some usefulness ) and an older Canon 9950F scanner for 120 negs. While I like the control I have over the on-screen images, I do miss the days in the darkroom. A bottle of plonk, a stack of CD's by the stereo...bliss! At some point when I free up some space in the house, and have more time, I will build up another darkroom. In the meantime, I will have a lot of questions for the more experienced and learned members here regarding the finer points of films, developing, and all the different recipes that one can cook up. Looking forward to it! Regards, Svend |

Thanks Barry. Looking forward to taking part in the goings-on here.
First question: is there any way to edit one of my own posts once submitted? I don't see that function. [Correction: it is enabled for my own recent replies, but not my original post. Is there a time limit?] Thanks, Svend Last edited by Svend; 21st April 2016 at 04:55 PM. |

Welcome, Svend. Like you, i kind of got out of the way of it all for a year or two, but nowadays my wife knows she can find me in the darkroom more often than not.

Hi Svend I'm pleased you've found FADU and analogue again.
Try not to leave it too long for a darkroom. I don't know how often enlargers come up in your neck of the woods. So keep your eyes peeled and snap up a bargain when you see one. Preferably a professional model upto 4x5". Just in case you get the LF itch.
