greetings
think it's age related but i forgot to say hullo when i joined in january.
hullo. i'm a former fleet street snapper and picture editor... packed it up in about 93 after we moved to norfolk - hated the digitalisation. opened a studio in king's lynn, total disaster even though i had the only e6 line for 50 miles and finished up living in norwich. exciting times? not really. my sight went bad, which involved a double cataract op... wrote for hotshoe international for a bit... and finished up at norwich art skool doing a fine art m.a.... not bad for an old hack!!! been doing most of my stuff on digital of course... but planning an exhibition in the forum norwich at the beginning of august. just bought a 6x9 ikonta and a moskva 5 so this will be a film gig.... if i can get the darkroom or garden shed cleaned up enough. please will somebody tell me just why ilford, bless them, still print on the backing paper on roll films... but do so in such a light ink you can't read it thru the little red window. fascinating site this. well done to all involved. stuart |

Hi Stu and welcome to Fadu, I have often wondered about Ilford's light printing when using one of my collection of folder's, but no more, Fomapan prints heavy white numbers on a black background,
Richard

Hi Stu and welcome formally. All I can say is that despite your problems you haven't let the grass grow under your feet. I hope I'd be as resilient.
Yes I am another who struggles with Ilford markings and the red window. These things are sent to try us Mike |

Welcome Stu and as regards to the red window bit, I have never understood this as the film is panchromatic.

Welcome to the forum Stu and thanks for the intro.
I believe Ilford stocked up with a life-times supply of backing paper some years ago, so the light print will have to be lived with. |
