Default been trying out one of my birthday pressies

it was my birthday the other week and my wife (me) bought me some camera gear ,one of which I have been playing with its a 300mm 2,8 nikkor ED IF AI lens bult about 1977 I think ,its seen a lot of life but its in good condition for its age .I have been shooting Ilford delta 400 film ,and using the lens on a Nikon F5 and a monopod ,I was surprised how sharp it was and how easy it was to focus ,I have to use it on a monopod or a tripod ,but that's no worry I use a monopod most of the time anyway ,here is a photo I took with it ,its a scanned 10x8 print and I recon that's pretty sharp for a 1977 lens ..Click image for larger version

Well Paul, there is something wrong with your picture. I was able to count the horse's eyelashes and there aren't enough of them

Take the horse to a vet but your lens certainly needs no lens doctor

Mike I had a quick go no my other birthday pressie a novoflex 600mm ,I always wanted one of them and it is fun to use ,and very well engineered ,when I take some good photos I will put them on here . I am thinking about putting up a bird table in the garden ,that will give me something to photograph .

Sharp enough to give me a quick involuntary shudder when I zoomed in a bit and saw the dots were flies

f/2.8 for 300mm seems quite wide, but I guess that's the beauty of a prime lens versus a zoom. And gives you enough speed to show flies in flight...
