Default Kodak TX400.....what developer?

Could anyone who has used Kodak TX 400 advise me on what developer to use. I like my negatives to be very contrasty, sharp and with little grain.

I would think that the Kodak tmax developer is the best for your purposes with his film, certainly when I used it a few years ago now I trieb various developers and found that the Kodak developer suited the film best of all.

I found Kodak's Xtol to be pretty good as well. I use the Kodak times as listed by Kodak in its Xtol specs.

Frankly most developers will give good results and to an extent high contrast is the result of processing method and time whereas sharpness( in the sense of accutance) and fine grain tend not to go together. Rodinal gives high accutance but isn't known to be fine grain.

Fortunately TMax is fine grain. The inherent characteristics of the film probably has more to do with the outcome in terms of negative-look than the developer

the reason I use ilfosol 3 is that I use fp4 and hp5 and Kodak tx400 ,and I didn't want to have to many bottles of developer hanging about, I read somewhere that you could use ilfosol 3 with Kodak tx400 at 20c 1x9 at 7min30sec ,I tried it and am pleased with the results ,I think that if rob uses Ilford and Kodak he should have a go and see if he likes the results... he has had some great advice as usual that should keep him busy ....

I have got very sharp results with LC29, both with TMY-2 and TX.
