Match Needle Meter
Hi All.
Looking for a new match needle meter, managed to break my last one. I do have a Western that works fine, but just prefer the match needle style. Have seen a Gossen Sixtino (on that well known auction site) that seems to fit the bill. Gossen so a pretty good brand Anyone use (or used) one ? Any observations ?

As long as it's in working order (they're batteryless), the Ikophot is a pleasant meter to use. It has a slip-on mask for incident readings. You will see plenty on eBay.

I bought a Sixtino, but didn’t like it. It doesn’t have a needle locking mechanism. I think mine is actually a Sixtino 2. I do like Gossen products, however, and use two of their meters. I like the look of the Sekonic Twinmate already mentioned.

Ian, for versatility the Gossen Lunasix is hard to beat. You can do reflected light, incident with a little slider, and even spot if you have the attachment. Great meters. Batteries are problematic though, as they took mercury cells. There's a thread here somewhere about battery alternatives to these, so a work-around is doable.
If it's only incident you need, then the selenium cell Sekonic L398a is a classic. Wonderful meter. Needs no batteries at all. Try to get a newish one so the selenium cell will be as "fresh" as possible, as they do expire after a (long) while.

I'd suggest the Gossen ProfiSix (which was called the LunaSix SBC in the US).
Uses 9v PP3 batteries and can read down to very low levels. It too, takes a number of accessories like a spot reader. Mike |

I use one of these, and can also recommend it. It is, however, quite large compared to a Weston or a Sixtino. It’s definitely one of the best analogue meters. Alex Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Hi All,
Many thanks for taking the time to reply with your suggestions. Budget very tight at moment, but think I will keep to in camera metering and my Western for now and try to save up for a better more modern meter. Ian

Ian, I have a Gossen Sixon 2 that I am not using. It's yours at no cost if you cover the postage (which should be about 12GBP or so from Canada). It's a simple needle type meter that can do reflected light and incident with the slider dome. I think the old Hg battery is toast, but I can test it with a 675 hearing aid battery to make sure it works OK. Send me a PM if you are interested.
