Default Leitz V35 problem

One of the masking blades on my V35 enlarger has stopped working. It no longer moves across the film aperture. Has anyone experienced this, and can it be fixed?

Alex,
I would not worry about it, I've had a V35 from new and never used the masking blades, it's not a function that's imperative.

Thanks for the reassurance, John. I'm using the enlarger without it and don't see any problem. I did use it to block stray light on selective enlargements, but I'm not seeing any ill-effects without it.

A bit late here goes...

If it's one of the left right ones (usually is) they wrap round a stick that's attached to the knob you turn, the break where they are attached. Quite an easy fix is to trim off the broken end and re-attach (it's all screwed together) the really hard part is getting to it in the first place.

Thanks for that. I'm getting by without it, although I was in the habit of using the masking blades. It is a left to right one. I had a brief inspection to see how easily it could be stripped down. I think it's best left in one piece! It's very helpful to know what's inside and how to fix it if I do work up the courage to open it up. Thanks again. Alex.

The left hand rod is stuck in with super strong loctite, a bit of a b****er, but with a bit of work you can modify an allen key to remove the screw partialy obscured by it. You have no choice for the right hand one however (not stuck in as much), and the spring is fun to put back!

I have fixed two of these, not too hard if you take it easy and think.
