Default Agfa APX 100

I have bought some of this film in 35mm. If anyone else is using it, what speed do you rate it? I know that I should do an EI test, but I don't have the time/enthusiasm at the moment to go through the technical procedure. A general indication of whether it works best at "box speed", or something different would be helpful. I intend using a popular developer like Ilfosol 3, ID11 or HC110(B). Thanks, Alex.

I have used this for a while now and used it when it was a 'real' Agfa film. To be honest there is nothing between the new and old they ARE or seem to be identical.

I rate it at 100ISO and develop in Rodinal at 1-50. This gives a tight grain structure and not a lot of it either. There is adequate shadow detail too

Thanks, John. I've started the first roll at 100, but gave a couple of the shots +1 compensation, just in case! I will complete this one at 100 and see how it looks. The film is well priced at the moment, compared to some other popular brands.

Like John, I've been using APX at box speed in Rodinal 1.50. I like the film. Shadow areas need attention when printing, to retain the most detail. Otherwise a good film and as you say a good price.

I use APX at box speed and have developed it in ID11 1+1 and PMK pyro and have had surperb results every time. It has been and easy film to print.

It's about the only film thats true speed is its box speed. This is probably because they used the DIN speed system to determine the EI. Kodak had to get the ASA system changed so that they could call Tmax 100 & 400 100 & 400 ISO emulsions.

I did zone sytem tests on AP100 (& later APX100) as well as Tmax 100 and found the Normal speed for APX100 was 100 EI and Tmax 100 50 EI.

I had a couple of 120 rolls given to me -- I used one in Rodinal 1+50 in my 1956 Agfa Islolette III

APX100C by pentaxpete, on Flickr
I used 13 mins at 100 ASA -- next time I will use 14 mins and downrate it to 64 ASA
