Default Paterson (Philips) Enlarger Timer PDT 2015 woes

Does anyone use one of these?
Need to see whether I am doing something wrong or whether the unit has a fault.
I switch on and get the P in the display.
I input 1 to get P1 in the display.
I input 3 and STORE.
3 seconds is now stored under the P1 function.

I press the START/HOLD and the 3 second count begins (with audible bleeps) but the enlarger lamp does not come on.

If I press the LAMP button the lamp will come on and stay on until turned off.
I can input different times under the different P numbers, I can recall times, I can dim the display.
Everything seems to work except the lamp coming on when I start a program cycle.
So annoying.
Have gone through the manual and can't see what the problem is.
Was really looking forward to doing some printing this evening.
Any suggestions anyone?

Bad luck.I don't have this model and I am no electrician or electronics engineer but it looks as if the start/hold switch is at fault. You might try using a spray that "unsticks" switches i.e. the equivalent of WD40 for electrical switches.

If it isn't as simple as that then hopefully someone here uses this model and can advise further

Best of luck

Mike

Default Time not working

Is there a fuse in the circuit? I have a Baeuerle electronic timer with a 1Amp fuse and this has blown once and had me going for a while. If there isn't a fuse can you check the wire to the enlarger, or in the enlarger itself - they are not unknown to fray or a soldered connection break

Then can you open up the timer, it may be the contacts inside are burnt and whilst they appear to work they do not complete the circuit. (Very much like a relay in a motor vehicle wiring circuit) The seconds may appear to count down but nowt else is happening. Manuals or handbooks very rarely give an answer to the more obscure problems.

I use one of these and I don't think it's the kit.

Surprisingly, I don't use it as an enlarger timer BUT as a process timer. It's fantastic as both a paper and film processing timer.
And I believe that's the mode you've been using it in!

Simply press "analyse" the lamp will come on and then press "start/hold". The light will turn off and you're into enlarger timer mode. Just type in your time, press "start/hold" as normal and Bob's your uncle.

Sorted. I found that by using P0 I could store times. Will have a better look tomorrow - but I have some decent (well I think so for the first attempt in years) prints!

Yaaaay!

My appetite has been re-whetted!

By pressing p0 and then "start/hold" you also get into the decimal enlarger timer mode upto 99.9 secs. But I've never been able to store times in this mode.

In the processing mode the timer is in whole seconds upto 999 and these times can be stored (and linked) but as far as I'm aware there's no enlarger operation in the whole second mode.

Best of luck and enjoy your printing.
