Camera on the Crags
Some years ago at a Fell and Rock Hut in Wasdale I was thumbing through Camera on the Crags : A Portfolio of Early Rock Climbing Photographers by the Abraham Brothers [Revised Edition]
written by Allan Hankinson- The wonderful book documents in B&W plates the early days of rock climbing in Britain. The Abraham Brothers were based in Keswick in the north of the Lake District and toted a plate camera up high mountain crags to record early ascents of some of the classic routes. Relying on hemp ropes and nailed boots falling was not an option which makes these pictures all the more incredible. Long out of print I discovered this book in http://www.abebooks.co.uk/ and would encourage anyone mildly interested to buy a copy. I have requested one from Santa and am looking forward to thumbing through it again
