Under Tracks –Celebrating London's Railway Arches (exhibition)
After 3 years of shooting, this project has come to its conclusion with an exhibition, fittingly, in a gallery in a railway arch.
I will be showing about 95 framed (darkroom) photographs that will reveal the amazing diversity of the individuals and businesses who spend their working days Under Tracks, in London's railway arches. The exhibition is at The Underdog Gallery, Arch 6, Crucifix Lane, London Bridge SE1 3JW – just 3 mins walk from The Shard and London Bridge Station from Friday 23rd June to Sunday 25th June inclusive. After the show, digital files of the complete collection of my Under Tracks images (some 220) have been accepted for inclusion, in perpetuity, in the History of London Archive held at the Bishopsgate Institute Library in the City of London. A selection of Under Tracks images can be seen on my website at http://www.tedkinsey.com/under-tracks-images |

Excellent pictures! I hope your exhibition is a success. Only yesterday I was discussing railway arches near where I live. Not everyone realises that they were an important source of revenue for the railway companies who built them. I think nowadays people tend to think of them being pressed into service as an afterthought, when they were originally intended to be used that way. They are fascinating spaces.

In the early 80's I was PC in London and I had a vast number of railway Arches on 'my patch'. I got to know a good number of the tennants and it appears it hasn't changed a great deal over the years.
What astounded me was the extremely high rents charged by the British Railways Property Board for what is essentially a large hole in a very thick wall. No power supply. No water. No toilet facilities. They even had to make their own covering to block the arches off from those who would steal what they had inside. You have done very well to capture what you have, most of the tennants were as I rememberan bit 'camera shy'! |

Fantastic, and thanks for sharing. I am a Londoner by birth and of course under the arches is an iconic part of London which is great to see captured in a serious piece of work. Thanks, Neil
