I have been playing around with changing my standard go to film, from HP5 to Delta 100.
I am wondering what are other peoples favourite B&W film and why. Thanks Martin |

For me it is Fomapan 400, I have used it for years, box speed and develop for 18 minutes in Rodinal 1/50 I find it a very versatile film and a look like something from a time gone by

Delta 100, excellent tonality and fine grain.

Kodak T-Max 100 is my favourite film of all those I've tried. I'm fond of flat, t-grain technology so it won't be a surprise to learn that Ilford Delta 100, is my second favourite, go to film.
However, I am not against trying any film, developer combinations, especially if the price is right!

HP5 for me. I try every film that comes onto the market if I can tget hold of it but always rely on HP5 for most of my photography. So versatile......Drew

Jeez Martin, do I have to pick just one? I’ve had such great results from PanF, FP4, HP5, Tmax and Tri-X. And then there’s 135 vs 120 format…. How do I choose one only?
OK, so I picked HP5 because it’s what I shoot the most in 120 format. Wonderful film - great tonality, classic look to it, changes character just by changing developer, and so versatile.

I don't find Foma 200 which is a good choice for 35 mm. It has quality issues in 120, however.

HP5+ for me. It's just so versatile. I rate it at 200, 400 or 800 (and very occasionally 1600 depending on the circumstances. It also responds well in different developers.

I really don't care. Basically I use whatever is available, and you don't have to worry as long as you know how to use your material.
You can shoot expensive film or really cheap film in the same way. That's why I'm currently using the cheapest 8x10 on the market, the JandC Pro 100, in 8x10 size ... and it produces beautiful images. |
