Default Durst enlarger - what timer?

I have just bought an enlarger on ebay as I want to set up a darkroom after I became interested in developing my own prints when I did a course at college.

I have bought a Durst C35 but I don't know much about this sort of thing. Do I need a certain make of timer to fit it? Or are they universal?

I assume I can use it without a timer until I find one?

Thanks so much for any help

Any timer will do and you can switch the enlarger manually to start with, but it is much easier to make repeat exposures with a timer.

I think I have a durst enlarger timer lying about. You can have it for the cost of the postage if I can find it. Feel free to drop me a PM.

You can use any timer with any enlarger, thhey are pretty much universal, the best is the RH designs range, expensive but worth every penny, look on their site, see the sponsors at the top of the page,
Richard

You should have a look on ebay and Amazon for books on darkroom work. There is a good range of titles available that should give you some guidance. I have also managed to pick up a few from charity shops. I don't think there are too many currently available new, but there are plenty secondhand. Most of them have sections on equipment. Good luck with your new enlarger,
Alex

Hi Lozkins. This is where friendly forums like FADU are indispensable. We all know what it is like when there seems to be no-one you can turn to for information.

I had this model enlarger from back in the 80s ( I got it in 1981 I think) and after a college class in '90 it went back into storage until around 1994 or so when I sold the entire darkroom to someone from the Air Force Base near Tampa Florida. I had the C65 kit for it so I could do both 35mm and 6X6 and sure wish I had kept it. Well for the past few months I have been picking up a piece here and a piece there. I got a C35 on Ebay last month. It is missing the base and the mounting bracket and there is a drawer on the top that appears missing. All in all though the enlarger is quite good. Durst quit making them in 1985/7 I think. Parts are hard to come by and if you find another grab it. From what I have found by searching the bulbs for this enlarger are selling for $55 US DOLLARS!
I also have the manual on PDF for those that might need it.

Do you still have the Durst C35 manual (PDF) available. I would be grateful for a copy if possible.
