Default My new enlarger...

I recently had a bit of a disaster with my old LPL 7452 enlarger, basically one of the runner guides which kept the head aligned with the column just fell off. One of the 'problems' with my old enlarger was that it could only be aligned in factory so fixing the runner would of meant grinding through the outer casing of the head and spot welding it back together and hoping I could align it myself just to fix the runner.

But I have managed to pick up a new enlarger (very cheaply) a Durst L54.
Now the only 'problem' that I may have with it is that it has a Ilford 500c head with control panel and probe.
I've been using Stopclock Pro and since I cant use it with this head I'm going to have to sell it and buy another Stopclock 500 when I can afford it.
So does anyone here use a Ilford 500c dichroic head and control panel?
How is it to use compared to a normal color head?

I know a couple of people here use that head (not me...) but if you don't have a manual Ilford/Harman have a .pdf copy on-line here: http://www.ilfordphoto.com/products/page.asp?n=161

Mike- I was given a contact through this forum to Durst UK. Terry at this company was extremely helpful when I was at the stage of re-equipping

Thanks Bob, I've had a good look through that PDF and although the 500c control panel seems very good but I've got so used to my Stopclock that I'm not really looking forward to using a standard linear timer again.

Bookmarked that link Kenneth, I may well give them a call myself.

I use a similar Ilford 500h head on my recently acquired De Vere 504 along with the 500cpm control panel all through a 500s power unit.

I know there are a few variation in type of control panel out there but believe they all work very much the same in controlling time, grade, memory for custom combinations and print counter.

What type is your control panel? The equipment specs downloads on the Ilfordphoto website may be of use to you.

This is the Durst 54 that I picked up, I've checked it for alignment and everything is spot on. Its also been built to last, I mean if my house collapsed I'm pretty sure that this thing would still be standing!
Could someone please tell me what the box at the bottom of the column (second pic) is actually meant to do though??

looks like and auto focus unit of some sort for condensor heads. Is there a threaded rod coming out of the top of it or a hole where one might of come out and corresponding one on the head above it?

Theres a guide rod going from the box at the bottom to the head, you cant see it in the pic but on the other side of the box theres a knob you can turn which adjusts 'focus variator' and pushes the rod up/down.
Whatever it does/did it added to the extra weight and nearly crippled me trying to take it up stairs!!

from the look of the numbering on it, it has readings/settings for different focal length lenses. Does it work? i.e. does it actually do the focus for you or is it bust? I guess there must be some electronics linked into it and the lens stage. At least there would have been with original setup.
