Default camera servicing

I've got an old Canon AE1 in need of a service....does anyone know of a good place to take/send it, and the likely cost? There isn't a lot wrong with it, I just want to make sure it's 100% before I put it alongside by Minolta as my b&w option.

Any advice greatly appreciated

A good repairer I have used is Aztech Services.

He is very reasonable and I have had charges from 10 upwards. He does not charge for looking and if it can't be repaired he won't charge any fee. Nikon sends their cameras to him for repair but he will repair all makes including Canon, Pentax etc. etc.

He is;-

David, one of the best, and one that i have use a lot for servicing my classic cameras,is Newton and Ellis in Liverpool, can,t recomend them highly enough, I don,t think there is anything they can,t fix, and they are very helpful and friendly, and will often give you a quote over the phone and are very often spot on,check them out in the Links section Richard

I have used Newton and Ellis and they did a good job on my Nikon F3 - it did take a while but was worth the wait (summer so probably my fault for bad timing).
Ho and they can replace the glass in Weston meters if anyone is interested.

David.

Optical Instruments in Balham are no longer trading as of a few weeks ago. Perhaps someone can update the repairers list.

That's not good news, I've amended the list in our Links section.

As I reduced the list of repairers I will offer a new one:

Protech
Unit 1
Vulcan House Farm
Coopers Green
Uckfield
East Sussex
TN22 4AT

Telephone: 01825 732730
Mobile: 0771 261 1209
Email: enquiries@protechrepairs.co.uk
Web site: www.protechrepairs.co.uk

Kelvin was trained by and worked for Olympus in their glory days but was brought up with Leicas, as his father was a Leica Technician.

The chap who put me on to Kelvin said:

"Kelvin is one of those really honest guys who if he thinks he cannot do a job, will tell you before he starts wasting your time and money. I have used them for years for jobs as complicated as re-collimating the AF on a Contax G2 to others like re-building the Deckel shutter on my 1900 vintage Wirgin field camera. He did a CLA recently on my un-touched since new M4. He refused to charge me as he had been unable to tidy up the RF prisms, as their silvering had deteriorated. Cannot recommend him highly enough."

I found that to be true in my dealings with Kelvin.
