Thumbs up Dorothy Bohm

Yesterday I visited the above exhibition at the Manchester Art Gallery.
This is an Exstensive one, covering both her B&W work & colour. It is well worth a visit. They have also set up a replica of her darkroom, to give people an idea how film is printed, & in the same room there is a very good TV programme on Dorothy. I liked her comment 'you must learn the technique of photography, & then forget it'. How many times have I heard that!

Thanks for the "heads-up". This is when I miss not having any very big cities on the doorstep.

I went to see this exhibition yesterday and really enjoyed it. A good mix of stuff and little snippets of peoples lives for ever captured.

What found most fascinating was in this age where people discuss the pros and cons of zoom lens and how they can be used, here is someone who has captured a whole range of peoples expressions using one lens camera combo.

Food for thought me thinks and I am going to sell all my stuff and just use the Yashica 124. (no not really )

Hi Brian.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Dorothy Bohm exhibition. I'm due to be in Manchester on business soon, so I'll try to get along to that. Is it a freebie or is there a cost?

Paul.

It's free. Have a look at this link. http://www.manchestergalleries.org/w....php?itemID=68

Also added to calendar.

Cheers Bill. Free is a very good price - especially for such an eminent photographer.

Not like that Leibovitz woman. 11 to get into the National Portrait Gallery to see her expo - and very underwhelming it was too, I may add. Mind you, she does need the dosh to pay her immense entourage....!!

To publicise an upcoming exhibition in Chichester of the photos of Dorothy Bohm, here’s a selection of her photos from the Guardian.

Agreed. I made the mistake of buying the book of her later portraits. Underwhelming it was too. If I had the gall to unwrap it before I buy it, I would have saved a not inconsiderable sum.

Sadly, Dorothy Bohm died on 16/03/2023 at the age of 98, so here's the Guardian obituary.
