Thanks John. I went for the brown bottle option but I used a vacuum stopper and vacuum pump to pull most of the air out 😁
Regarding my earlier brew of id11, I developed some Orwo UN54 in it. I used it as stock, multi-use. This was dev 7 so the dev time was 5:30 + 60%. I also only used the recommended volume (as opposed to nearly filling the tank) which worked beautifully. When I was measuring the ID-11 I noticed it was a blue/grey colour. Also, the negatives were a bit dark and possibly overdeveloped so I dcided to ditch this batch of developer and start afresh with the right storage items. I had already done 7 films so I had my monies worth. This has been such an informative thread. Thank you so much 😁

After reading John's comments about child proof caps and the conical poly ones, I changed out the few child proofs I was using for conicals.

I have always tried to use brown glass bottles in the darkroom for mixed chemicals, but John Finch on Youtube raised an interesting point about using clear bottles.

If you have a dedicated darkroom.
A darkroom is dark.
Even when the light is on, it is mostly dim safelight.
The small amount of time the white light is on is probably quite negligible when it comes to harming developers etc..

I'll stick to brown bottles though.

Cheers.

Brown is a must for colour chems but for B&W I don't consider any colour to be a problem. It is just brown seem to be more readily available.

So long as the air remains lout of the bottle any method will do. I have never ever re-used developer even in undiluted form. I always use it once and discard.

Developer is cheap, film most definitely isn't.

If I develop 35mm the tank takes 250cc but used as a 1to1 dilution I can get 4 films out of a litre which is actually quite reasonable. If I were to use a rotary development each fi 150cc for a JOBO would need so that is only 75cc per film and is very economical. Used at 1-3 it is even cheaper than that.
