Default HCA in Nova slot processors

If anyone uses HCA in Nova slot processors how long do you keep working solution in there before dumping? Can it be simply replenished like dev and fix or is it a complete change every so many prints? I understand it doesn't keep in open trays but wondered about the Novas.

cheers

I did use the Fotospeed one once in the Nova tank and it made the prints streaky, I have not tried it again.

I use home made HCA in a Nova (sulphite+metabisulphite) and I use it for a couple of days then discard it. I don't know of a direct test for activity. A test would be to ascertain fixer levels in processed paper but it seems a bit roundabout.

The sulphite oxidizes to sulphate. Does anyone know of a simple test?

Tony
I've been trying the new ART300 paper and they haven't come out streaky.
I'm using Kodak HCA though.

cheers

Tony couldn't you cut a small strip of paper, leave unexposed and go through the full print processing sequence then test for residual fix on successive days until one day the test reveals an unacceptable change in residual fix and that day indicates max time for HCA in the slot?

Does this make sense?

Mike

Mike, that sounds very useful except I've never tested for 'residual fix' in the relative short number of years I've been printing as, also, I tended to use RC papers rather than fibre. I'll have a search around to find out how to do it, thanks.
