Default Hello from Scotland

Hello all

recently joined this board and thought I'd give a brief introduction. Long term (read many decades) film based photographer who has branched into alternative processes - especially chrysotypes. Work in both 35mm and medium format.

Looking forward to reading more in the forums and hooking up with fellow alternative process practitioners

Regards,
Keith

Welcome to FADU, Keith. I have heard of chrysotypes but never knew what's involved or even what a chrysotype print looks like

I look forward to hearing more about it from yourself and others

Mike

Hello and welcome, Keith. I suppose you're deep into Mike Ware's activities: he gave me good advice when I first embarked on blueprints and one or two other processes.

Thank you all for the welcomes.

I have been in touch with Mike Ware for a year or so - even trying to get him to reveal the secret of Version 'A', which he rightly refused to do so. I can say that I respect and admire him greatly and am constantly amazed when he replies to my emails.

Examples of my chrysotypes can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/scopa90/? - I assume that it's ok to paste links like that but if the admin inform me otherwise then I will remove it immediately.

Welcome, Keith,

nice to meet an experienced alternative printer.
The next days I will start with Brompil printing, with having salt printing in my mind, too.

I have found my contact prints and my Lithprints somehow alternative, too :-)

How do you get your prints from 35mm or medium format - of course with some digital steps / negatives?

Best,
Reginald.

Welcome to FADU and enjoy, Keith!
I started out lately with Anthotypes, which are very nice. I will continue once I got to terms with making suitable negatives. Most likely with paper negatives. I certainly want to have the process all analogue without making digital negatives.

Hello Reginald and thank you for your welcome.

From what I have seen both give excellent results. I did consider carbon transfer but looked at the safety warning for potassium dichromate and felt that with clumsiness combined with that chemical were not a good mix.

Are you going to buy your chemicals from Wolfgang Moersch or another supplier?

I love the look of lith prints!

Correct. I scan them using an Epson v800 and then use photoshop to manipulate the colour of the negative which is then printed on an Epson SC-P700 onto transparent media. Fortunately I get my best results with the cheapest transparency film, from PPD. The P700 has been butchered to prevent star wheels and allow me to use feed paper in from the back but have the front feed tray open.

Good luck with bromoil or salt printing! I look forward to seeing what you produce.

Regards,
Keith
