Default enlarger lens for 6x7

Hello, Im pretty new in this forum (this is actually my first post).

Yesterday I was enlarging some 35mm as usual and i tried enlarging some 6x7 on 11x14 paper and I was getting a round image on the paper instead of a full square like when you enlarge 35mm. Not to mention it was my first time enlarging medium format.

Is it because of the lens? the enlarger? ME???

The lens I have on my enlarger is a nikkor 50mm and the enlarger I have is a Beseler 67.

A little help please!!

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, in general you will need an 80mm lens (or longer) to cover a 6x7 film format.

Hi Solidstate,
Welcome to FADU.
You could perhaps get away with a 80mm lens but try to find one of at least 90mm. Good luck.

Hi Solidstate and welcome, A 50mm lens will not cover a 67 negative, hence the round hole, you need at least an 80mm lens to cover the size of the negative,
Richard

I have a 75mm Lens spare that you can have if you like. It should cover 6x7 with perhaps a little fall off in the corners.

Hi, there. I echo the other responses, the 50mm is too short. You need a 105mm. Depending on the enlarger maker and model you might need to swap some other bits too.

Cheers, M.

105mm is a bit long for 6x7 its usually recommended for 6x9, depending on the enlarger the 105mm may limit the amount of enlargement available.

Hello Solidstate
Welcome to the forum, I use a 100mm lens for my 6x7 enlarging and have found it just right.
By the way do you want to be called Solidstate or do you have first name you would like to be known?
Richard
