Rick. Newbie from Lancs
Hi Everyone, I've just registered membership. I've been doing black & white film photography, more off than on, since early last century - well the second half! I'm not a one hobby sort of guy; I have fallow years when the shutters lay silent. But late Summer/Autumn I seem to be drawn back to the camera viewfinder yet again. Something about slanting shadows. I try to keep 'pictorial' photography to a minimum now. I leave that to my iPhone. I've got thousands of negs and many poor prints. I pass though style phases. I'm a bit shadow/light photog and its affect on things - and street photography in foreign places. I'll be asking questions so watch for my first on using the Analyser Pro (which I've failed to completely master). Cheers, Rick

Welcome Rick. We have some experienced users of the Analyser Pro and one who has tried it and found it difficult - you and one who has an Analyser who has never tried it and becomes more nervous of his ability to master it, the more he sees - me
So when you ask questions think of it as helping me as well. If I have one why haven't I tried it? Well I have a Phillips exposure and grade analyser which is does a reasonable job but is much less sophisticated than the Analyser Pro and I keep on sticking with what I know I need to boldly go where Mike has never gone before Mike |

Hi Rick and welcome to Fadu, I have had an analyser/pro for around 25 years and would hate to not have it know, it pays for itself in saved paper and often gives a great print first time, or 2 seheets,
Richard

Welcome to the forum Rick. Unlike Richard who seems to have got the Analyser Pro off to a tee I also struggle with it, some days it works others it doesn’t. I do find though that any settings Richard gives are a good baseline.

I just guestimate exposure and did hundreds of prints on grade 2 fibre paper before there was VC stuff to add a further complication.

Impressive that you were printing before 1940 or so? That is when VC paper first appeared.

Hi Rick
Welcome to FADU. We are (hopefully) a friendly bunch. There are people here of all abilities, from the outstanding to mere mortals who get by. As long as you enjoy your hobby and are reasonably satisfied with your results - then nothing else really matters. Martin |
