Default Rob Hale Bay of Plenty NZ

Hi Ladies and Gents.

I live in Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand.
A little over 9 years ago I stuffed up my back, which gave me difficulties with sitting. This led me to wandering around with a family camera SP 1000. That led to getting to know the local colour lab owner who basically got me into photography and from whom I learnt my colour basics. He had learnt his from Kodak up in the U S A. He had a very nice 11 inch wide roller tank system for aerial film and a 30 inch wide roller tank for paper. Beautiful results. That is now sadly closed down so I have been learning B&W for the last 6 or so years and I feel I am now probably a fully qualified novice. I use 5x4, 120 at 6x8 and 6x7, and a CPE 2 for film and paper using mostly Ilford film and paper.

The Good points of being down under in the Bay of Plenty NZ. Stunning winter days, very clear and very blue skies with the in between bits with magnificent clouds. Houses are a bit bigger, dollar for quid, so it is easier to find space for darkrooms and enlargers etc. We have our own version of ??bay – Trademe which works well but is a little limited in offerings.
The not so good bits – it is a long way away from Silver Print, FFordes et al and things like the Turner galleries. Some UK companies don’t like shipping outside the Euro zone so we tend to use people like Bostik & Sullivan who are very comfortable to deal with and ship pretty promptly. Buying raw chemicals locally can be a very trying experience as well as stunningly expensive.

Regards to All

Rob Hale

Hi Rob and welcome. Yes I don't think we realise how lucky we are in the U.K when it comes to ordering such things as chemicals.
