Black spot on negative
Hi,
Yesterday I've developed a sheet of FP4+ in a tray. When I looked at the negative I can see that there is some black dots, not white dots on it. Before development I presoak the film in water containing 2 drops of wetting agent then I transfer the film to the developer which is WD2D+, then to the acid acetic stop bath (1.5 once into 1000ml) and then into Hypam 1+4 for 4 minutes and finally wash it for ten minutes. Does anyone has encounter this problem? Maybe I don't agitate enough in the developer. Do you have any idea. |

Black dots are likely to be either a) light getting onto the film somehow. If the dots are blurred this is likely to be the case. b) Something contaminating the developer or bits of something in your tank/tray sticking to the film - try re-washing the negative c) marks caused by static electricity causing a small spark when the film is being inserted or removed from the holder. Most likely if you are working in very dry conditions.
I once had a neg that had a cluster of black dots in one corner. I tried re-washing it and they didn't go. I eventually put it in the enlarger with the intention of doing some darkroom jiggery-pokery to try to hide them. It turned out that they were a flock of birds that I hadn't notoce when taking the picture! Rob |

Thank you Rob, I will rewash it to see if it goes away. You must have laugh a lot when you saw the flock of birds!

Jacques,
I have read in the past that its not a good idea to add wetting agent to the pre-wash or developer. However I don't think this would cause your problem with black spots.

Absolutely not a good idea - Frothing (and subsequent marks on the neg) are not what you want. Keep wetting agent well away from anything that you use for developing... |

Thanks I will try it without the wetting agent.
