Everything is at a very early stage yet. I'm kind of getting the ABC right at the moment, so haven't even tried to sell anything. I've made the question as to know what were the possibilities. It doesn't seem to be easy but not impossible either. I think is a matter of doing what one loves and if it brings some money in, then great! I suppose there's a never ending learning curve for this as well and is all a matter of enjoying the ride... |

Marketing
I am new in this forum and I hope I will not offend anyone with the following, but being successful with fine art print sales is not so much about what you photograph, but who you show it to and how.
I have found that the likes of Rankin, Perou and Bailey are only as successful as their publicists, managers, agents originally wanted them to be. Its all about marketing. Additionally, they are all very eccentric and have huge egos that stand out and make people take note and listen, as outrageous as they may be. Perou 'dresses up' in weird hats and sunglasses and wears T-shirts that say 'I am the Talent here!' Bailey is rude and tells you straight what he thinks of your photographs! No tact or manners. In essence, these guys are successful because they are good at selling and in particular at business, not just at picture taking. Lets face it, I will never sell my B&W images because I love film photography, still to learn about the printing, but am not good at selling the stuff to potential buyers. I can smell their money but they would rather smell the success of a Rankin or Grecco! Its all about offering what people want rather than selling what I like. My images are for me and they are all special. If someone wants a print of my images, I will charge a special price. They can take it or leave it. Hmmm.... I guess that's my ego coming through. Food for thought... Regards Duncan |
