Now, the manual says, for manual focussing at greater diameters of enlargement, raise the parallogram to the maximum position, and lock it with the knob provided. Then move the whole enlarger head up the column for the size required and focus with the helical focussing mount that you have discovered.
"The provision of the focussing mount also allows for adjustment for accuracy in the automatic operation, if the operator feels that his judgement and eyesight may be more critical than ours (which may, of course, be the case)"
As I said, I was very happy with this enlarger, until I discovered Leitz Focomats. I now have a V35 and a Focomat 11c.
