AS has been said, there are perhaps too many to say, and for too many different reasons. For me, Ansle Adams' Clearing Winter Storm, Yosemite' has to be up there with the best. The sheer raw power of nature captures id such amazing detail. I spentnearly an hour gazing at it when it was in the AA exhibition in the Hayward Gallery a few years ago.

Some good photos on this thread.

I recon although it looks a tad cheesy, this has got to be up there Galen Rowell's "Rainbow over the Potala Palace, Lhasa"

First thing you think looking at that is "lucky bastard", but then consider that he had to run about 3 miles with camera in hand to get that shot.

Brett Weston Garrapata Beach One of many stunning pictures by Brett where the black shadows are truly black.

Default Greatest Image

I was hesitant about asking this question on FADU, as I thought it a bit naff. But seeing what some of you guys have come up with, many images I have not seen before, from such a wide spectrum of visual recording have quite amazed me.

Why should it amaze you?

Naturally it begs the question; What criteria makes an image great?
For myself, if I have to choose just 1 image; then it would probably have to be about "the human condition".
This image by W. Eugene Smith is unforgetable.

There really are too many, and what I consider favourites, still remain favourites despite the discovery of new ones!
George Seeley's 'The Firefly' is still wonderful even after looking at it for years

And amongst the new discoveries, Phillippe Halsman's and Dali's 'In Voluptas Mors', is just an extraordinary concept!

There really are just too many to list.

I see. I think there are now rather more images available to view than there is time to view them, so pointing each other at a selected few is no bad idea.
