Super venue - not that I need an excuse to visit this part of Sussex

Finally found time to see this exhibition today - some wonderful images from Eggleston, Alec Soth and William Christenberry. But the biggest disappointment for me was the Walker Evans exhibit, all ink-jet copies, not a vintage WE in sight

Unbelieveable!

Makes you wonder why they do it and how often this goes on

I'm glad its not just me Marty. I really should have asked, why? - I'll email them.

I remember reading an article about the digital re-printing of Evan's work - from the New York Times:-

Walker Evans. Or Is It?

Thanks Tony - very interesting article.

The prints of Evans I saw yesterday were certainly, to me, not, to quote the article, "...seductive and luxurious — velvety, full of rich detail..." The only fidelity I felt they had was they were faithful in terms of size to Evans original contact prints.

PS. I have emailed them and asked why no vintage WE on show.

Very interesting, I think the comment "outside the tonal range of the old silver gelatin prints:" wasn't the best way to put it, probably it should have said easier to bring the detail out, as in the hands of the right printer any detail can be rendered.
