Default Ilford Pan F-Pus 50 asa- development times?

Using Ilfosol S which is my stock developer Ilford recommend dilutions of 1-9 for 4 mins but also state less than 5 mins can cause uneven development so can I ask what you would recommend i.e. lower development temperature giving a longer development curve of dilution of 1-14 increasing development time to 6 mins?

Kenneth, first off please let me apologise for the delay in replying, I've been away for two weeks and just arrived home for the weekend before heading off to London on Monday. Unfortunately I could not carry my laptop and had ne access to a computer where I was working.

With regard to your question, I'd leave to temperature at 20c and change the dilution from 1+9 to something like 1+15 to 20 and extend the development time to something like 9 minutes for normal development. My reasons are quite simple, development for less that 3 to 4 minutes is very likely to cause uneven development and it gives no facility to reduce development should you need to reduce contrast. Clearly you will need to expose some test film to determine the best time/dilution combination to suit your taste. Please let us know the results should you decide to go in this direction.

Les- I processed the film this evening using Ilfosol 3 diluted 1-14 for 6 mins and the results look fine. As this was my first time processing Pan F I very appreciated you suggestions. With a 9 minute development time how would you expect the negs would have turned out? Thank you again Les
