Question A new gallery place?

There's a lots of friend taking pictures all the time, some of them will be see on the gallery site or perhaps used for the print exchange, but I asked to my self if will be interesting for the friends a new place on the "gallery site" that will be called "month's theme". On this site every month, with a time before to know what shot to take are, all who want will post photographys about a concrete theme and take votes from the others. It's only an idea. Dave as administrator will say something about?

Themes or 'set subjects' can be of use as they get you looking for images you would not normally make. The concept is used of cousre by many camera clubs in their competions. This can be useful for photohraphers who need some motivation, or to develop their photographic skills, or to just take part for the fun and the challenge.

As for voting for the best image there will be split opinions on this I'm sure. Personnaly I am not a fan of voting and would much rather read some constructive comment.

I used to take part in another forum which had a themed subject for each month, rules were piccy taken on film within that 4 week period. pictures were voted on and the 'winner' would choose the next theme.

Seemed good, entries varied from month to month and it was nice to have something different to focus on (naff pun not really intended).

I'd like to see some crit of the pics though as IMHO that helps me to improve.

I wouldn't commit to every month but I'd have a go

Yes I think a monthly set subject gallery could work OK.

As for critiquing and voting for best image I think is pointless as true image quality IMO can not judged with a tiny jpeg. on a monitor.

I am sure club competitions and the judges critiques stifle creativity so we don't really want to go in that direction unless of course you want all your images looking the same.

Please leave critiques to people who actually know what their talking about.

AAAAAAAH, do such rare beings exist? Definitely not in Westminster or the Town Hall.

I run a mile from set themes. I like to take photos of subjects that appeal to me and at this stage of my hobby I've can't abide competitions. Photography should be an art form and not a sport. I welcome comments and critiques on my work but not a score.
