Default Hello from Andy in Cornwall

Hi

I'm new to this forum. I do mostly digital photography these days, tho' a friend of mine has set up a walk-in dark room which I intend to use at some time in the future, what with me retaining my last SLR and a few nice lenses.

However, I do have my own darkroom kit, which is the main reason why I'm on the site. I want advice about checking it out so that I can get rid of it. I need the space, and I cannot justify keeping so much stuff collecting dust on the basis of some hypothetical time arriving when I'll be able to have my own dark room again.

This kit hasn't been used in decades. It's a waste of time.

Regards,
Andy

My understanding is that it is quite hard to sell complete darkroom kits these days. Most of those interested in such kit have most of it already. You may have better luck selling bits and bobs of it to people who need to fix/extend their set-ups. However that is a time-consuming process and not terribly profitable unless you have some pretty serious kit. Have a look on eBay to see the various stuff on offer, much of which goes unsold. Maybe you should donate your gear to your friend and hope that he lets you use his dark-room for free or not-much when the mood takes you?

You may of course prove all that I have said to be wrong. It's a lottery

Hi Andy,

Welcome to FADU.

Best of luck in selling the darkroom.

On a personal note, the one thing that always stops me from buying is when the items are collect only, plus I always think that this limits the pool of potential buyers to a fairly small radius from the sellers location.

Ian

Hi Andy and welcome. When you say "advice about checking it out" I think we need to know what you have first. Is it your intention to get rid of it all?

It sounds as if you have easy access to darkroom facilities which is fine but it may still make sense to do home film processing unless your friend's darkroom is very close.

I may be alone but I am unclear as to how we advise you to check whether everything works until you tell us what you have?

I may be reading too much into your question but as most things are easily checked out such as film tanks and enlargers even without having the benefit of total darkness I worry that I have missed something in your question.

Mike

i'm in west cornwall and i'm looking for darkroom stuff, feel free to drop me a line with a list and prices.

i do not need a whole darkroom, mainly sundries and bits now. top of the want list being a print washer and safelight.

i can promise it a good home!

Welcome Andy, all the best with the rehoming of your darkroom kit.
