Sad to hear of Killip's passing. He had a remarkable eye in depicting ordinary folk. On reading his Guardian obit, a non-descript art critic elucidated that Killip's picture of a Boy on a Wall, Jarrow, 1976, represented the anguish of "Thatcher's Britain". The boy was being a bit previous as Jim Callaghan was still alive and was PM. The Winter of Discontent was yet to come.

Chris Killick was an assistant at Adrian Flowers' studio in about 1966, just before I joined.
