Was the Nikon FG 20 a good slr. My son has changed his mind from a TLR back to 35mm. He has seen a fg 20 in near mint condition but I have no experiance with this camera, can someone help please.

The Nikon FG-20 dates back to the early 1980's and was a manual and aperture priority camera. This was a step up from the Nikon EM, which was available around the same time but was an auto only model.
I think it would be fair to say they weren't as rugged as, for example, the FM and FE which again were also available in the 80's, but they were good cameras nevertheless. You may like to read a little information on this website which gives a general overview of your camera: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography...fg20/index.htm

Should be a good camera. Supposed to be quite light, and although deemed "budget" back in the day it'll still be built a hell of a lot more substantially than anything made today.

Hi. I am using FG on regular bases. All is the same, just FG20 nas no program mode, but automated flash feature. It will be shockingly small after TLR. This cameras were deemed "amateure", so many of them today are in very good condition, as they seen not much of use.

I had an FG20 from new until a few years ago, a small and lightweight camera which as others have commented is less rugged than and FE or FM. The FG is also worth looking at and a little more capable but in terms of weight you can't go wrong with either and with lens removed they are almost pocketable
