Default Durst enlarger lenses

Are Durst enlarger lenses a rebrand of another make, or were they manufactured by Durst?
I'm after a 105 rodagon but was wondering if there is a cheaper, but just as good alternative?

Durst didn't make their own lens, I think they may have been Minolta lens, but not sure.

Yes, from what I understand they are re-brands and as long as you get a 6 element design you shouldn't go far wrong.

I have never owned one but I know they are well regarded by those who use them.

I seem to remember they were made by Schneider who made a lot of "own brand" lenses.
As Marty says almost any six element lens should be good. I had a Jessops six element, Japanese made, that was very sharp.

Cheers for the info, will have a look at them.

I've got a Caltar 210mm for my 5x4, it's a re-badged Rodenstock and is one of the sharpest lenses (apart from my 90mm canon TSE) I've ever used, hoping the same goes for enlarging lenses.

I don't know who made them but the durst 6 element lenses are very good indeed, as good as anything else, but if you want a bitingly sharp lens for a budget price look for a minolta Erokkor, I had a 75mm one and it was the best I ever had until I dropped it onto a concrete floor, sadly, and today they are as cheap as chips if you can find them,

Richard

I have a 75 mm Durst Neonon that I got with my Durst M605 enlarger. It is an excellent lens and is marked Made in Japan. That makes it unlikely to be Schneider. The thoughts were at the time I got mine that they were made by Pentax. I think over the years they have used a number of suppliers.

I have always understood that Dursts were re-branded Minolta

Although this could just be yet another urban myth

Like most Lens Manufacturers they made different grades of lenses for a range of budgets

However, top quality Dursts were on a par with anything from Rodenstock/Schneider/Nikon
