Framing our images: crucial or unimportant?
Hi,
Thanks to all the FADU users who welcomed me and thought my "Home Gallery" project was a worthwhile idea. With the support I have at home I can think about matching frames and (being the kinda guy I is ) have decided to buy some secondhand framing kit to do my own! OK, not essential for my Gallery but I have several friends and family into photography and think I will get some use over many years... Before I buy my first piece of gear this Sunday does anyone want to encourage OR talk me out of this!? Frankness appreciated! Robert Last edited by RobertJMan; 3rd January 2018 at 07:30 PM. my daughter in law went around a load of charity shops and bought a load of old ish frames cheap , cleaned them up painted them all the same colour and filled them all up with pictures I have taken and printed of my grand kids ,it gives me great pleasure (and always has) to see my prints on other peoples walls .

To do any photograph justice it needs to be hung on a wall, in my opinion.
Printing and hanging pictures has become the final and most decisive step in my selection process beginning at the point of whether I decide to take a photograph in the first place or not. I firmly believe it has helped me become a ‘better’ photographer and printer but there’s still a lot of room for improvement I’m afraid! So I only print photo’s that I think are worth putting into a frame and if a photo doesn’t make it onto the wall then it’s not good enough.

Go for it Robert. Make your own frames. Cheaper than buying them...

Cost is a huge issue... brass spent on frames cannot be spent elsewhere... Picking up my second hand mitre cutter from Leicester on Sunday! Robert |

Robert, where do you plan on getting your lengths of moulding and mount board from?
Lion, in Birmingham, are very good and supplied me with short sample lengths of mouldings. Alan |

Don't know how they compare with the local shop mentioned, but B&Q have a large supply of moldings = in my local store at least.

Thanks for tips, I will pick up some stuff to learn on. With the great opportunity to "100%" my images (shoot, process, print AND frame!) I will take some time to search for summat Amazing!! |

If you have a branch of The Range nearby they have 20x16 frames for less than £5 and they are excellent.
