Default Dartmoor in November!

DARTMOOR IN NOVEMBER!

Several who came to the Dartmoor in January gathering have asked for a repeat of much the same, therefore I starting thinking about another visit for January 2012. But then a suggestion was made to do it again in November 2011, and I had to agree this was a very good idea. So by popular demand here we go again, but this time with Dartmoor in November!

This will happen over the weekend of the 18/19/20 of November, 2011.

We shall be using the Riverside Inn, Bovey Tracey as our base. The rate currently quoted for single ensuite accommodation is £35.00 per night. A full- English breakfast can be obtained for an additional £5.00 – book when at the hotel. The cost of ensuite accommodation for two sharing a double or twin room is currently shown as £55.00 per night.

If you are planning to come I would advise early booking at the Riverside Inn as they only have 10 rooms. The hotel has requested that you book on-line via their web site:

http://www.riversideinnbtracey.co.uk

Should the Riverside Inn be fully booked I can recommend the nearby Dolphin Hotel which is five minutes’ walk away. However, the Dolphin Hotel’s prices will be slightly more expensive as they are not currently offering a winter discount.

Alternatively, a variety of accommodation in the form of Inns, hotels, B&Bs and camping sites is available within the area to suit all pockets and tastes.

When you have booked your accommodation please let me know by posting on this thread as I shall be compiling a list of who is coming to keep everyone updated.

The format for the weekend will be the same as our previous visit –informal and to do some photography. There will be three days of light walking and landscape photography, with plenty of time for socialising in the evenings. Hopefully we shall have another impromptu print sharing session at the Riverside Inn on the Saturday night – please bring along a few prints if you can.

The general idea is to visit some known photo haunts and to look at a few new ones, as well as to accommodate the wishes of the group. The locations will be decided on the day and will be chosen with the weather in mind. But if you would prefer to do your own thing that will not be a problem.

The walking will be light to moderate and the emphasis will be on maximising image making opportunities rather than trekking miles across the tors. As the weather on Dartmoor can be unpredictable and the going often muddy outdoor clothing and walking boots / shoes are recommended.

If you can’t make the whole weekend but can manage to come along for a day or two, or join in for a few hours on one of the days or evenings, you would be made most welcome. If so do get in touch with me here or by PM to discuss the details.

If you have any questions / queries that are not covered in the above please raise them here.

I hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Neil.

Default Possible Locations

Possible Locations

I think it would be a good idea to have some prior discussion on possible locations to visit so that the wishes of the group can be accommodated as far as possible. I do know Dartmoor very well, and I won’t be stuck for ideas, but here is your opportunity to let me know if there is anything specific you want to do

Stoo has mentioned he would like to revisit Wistman’s Wood as he felt there was more to do there. The light was rather ‘thick’ on our last visit so this could be a good idea.

Yes I would like to have another go at Wistman’s Wood as long as not windy or peeing down, windy because of the photos and don't fancy walking there in the rain. I would like to spend more time there this time and also go back to that pub where we had an excellent lunch.

I've booked 3 nights Neil. I agree with Stoo, another visit to Wistmans Wood would be good. I think I will bring some colour film, as I expect the trees will be colourful at that time of year!
Regards,
Paul

Jon,

The lunch was in the Two Bridges Hotel, that's the one that has a super collection of Chris Chapman's work on display.

I am not surprised a few of you want to return to Wistman's Wood as it is a magical place - challenging as well ! If the weather is suitable I can't see any reason for not going there again Mind I didn't lay on too bad a weather last time
