Default Buying equipment you've never heard of...

Generally, I'm not one for taking risks when buying equipment and I would rather do my homework. However, I was taken by this panoramic camera at the weekend and thought I'd like to put some film through it.

It's called a Cyclops Wide-eye and has a negative size of 6x15.5cms. It's a bit Heath Robinson, but fortunately I've put some film through mine and it all seems to work fine.

Here's a pic.

So what equipment have you bought that you had never heard of?

I bought a Godox softbox recently. It was quite cheap at £29.95. It's described as a 95cm octabox. I was surprised at the quality. It's main covering is very robust. I see a lot of their products advertised, and assumed that the low prices would be reflected in the quality, but certainly not in this case.

It looks very similar to the same type of offering sold from the old USSR, but if you speak to one of the dealers who specialise in older cameras - Peter Loy or Collectable Cameras they may be able to help.

I have just goggles 'Cyclops wide-angle panoramic camera', and interestingly it came back with the name so they may be still in existence. The cameras they are making now appear to be the digital variety

Thanks John, but this website has been most helpful even with an instruction manual for download!

The most obscure film related item I've bought is a 'Balfour Rexette film striper' - It allows you to glue a magnetic sound stripe onto super-8 cine film. I have yet to try it, but the materials are still available, and my projector has the ability to record onto the stripe...
