Default Kodak Hypo Clear

What makes for such a short shelf life for it? Air or light exposure?

Thanks.

I've been wondering that as when tidying up my darkroom last week I noticed the use by date on an unopened pack was July last year and I bought it in late 2014.
I only use FB papers in Summer as the tap water is too cold for efficient washing most of the year here and that pack was intended for this years work as I didn't print any FB last year.

I think that Kodak are being conservitive in their estimate, I recently mixed a pack I had had for a few years and I am currently using it, I am not a chemist but I can,t see any reason for it to go off, and I can't find any ill effects . mind you, it might take many years to show up. I would be inclined to mix the packet up and use it, After all, how many of us would use the stock solutions of nearly 4 litres in 3 months, even at 1/4 dilution, I know I don't
